Winter toy shop
Our winter toy shop. I absolutely love this set! It is just so cool! Its over on one of our endtables. We have decided to break it down and bring it out to rebuild every year!
Lego Winter Village - 10199 Toy Shop
Set 10199, Toy Shop, was the first Winter Village set available; it was first released for the 2009 Holiday Season, and was discontinued at the beginning of the 2011 Holiday Season. I was lucky enough to grab one in the final days of its availability; it was my first grownup-grade Lego set, as well as my first Lego set as a grownup. The set is rated at Age 12+, and consists of 815 pieces. It took me about three hours to build the set, as it was my first try at a Lego set in 25 years and I had trouble understanding some of the instruction manual conventions (i.e. distinguishing between light gray/dark gray/black, or between white and clear). The toy shop on Hobson Street has a giant Playmobile figure (I did think it was Lego but I have been corrected) outside it as part of it's most recent promotion (something to do with guarding precious jewels and such). This makes me happy.

possibly the best toy shop in Korea. have always passed this store at the wrong time, often after dinner/drinks etc, and been intrigued by the ceiling of understated fibre optics. i've never been to a toy store that hasn't had it's shelves overflowing with stock. My Favorite looks more like a design furniture store, only one example of each item on display, each one hand picked. the selection's brilliant, a mix of fab lo fi classics like Playsam (DK) and kids' books like Katsumi Komagata's. picked up a 50th anniversary reprint of Better Homes & Gardens Junior Cookbook (binder version). This is a little out of sequence with all the pictures from our trip to Europe this summer but I wanted to submit a shot to the 10/10/10 group. We visited the Shelburne Museum while on a trip to the Adirondacks over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. We'd never heard of the place and only dropped in to see the Ansel Adams and Edward Burtynsky exhibit. There was so much to see that we stayed for the rest of the day -- one of the highlights of our trip.

The Upper and Lower Pontalba Apartments were built by the Baroness Michaela Pontalba between 1845 and 1856 on both sides of Jackson Square. They are the oldest apartment buildings in the United States. The Baroness is a colorful figure in New Orleans history. She was the daughter of Don Andres de Almonaster y Roxas, who is buried under the floor of the St. Louis Cathedral. The Baroness survived an attempted murder by her father-in-law in Paris 1834. She returned to New Orleans in the 1840's to find the old Creole families were moving to Esplanade Avenue. Seeking to restore this area of the French Quarter, she built her grand row houses, and convinced city officials to renovate the Square, and surrounding buildings to resemble the great public squares in Europe.
